Before I joined Quinlan, I had close to zero relevant experience to put in my resume. I realized how bad the situation was late in my final year, so my first solution was to join the internship program provided by the Uni I attended. Unfortunately, I got rejected due to having a lack of MYOB experience. It infuriated me that an entry-level internship position even requires me to have local experience. Worse yet, my interview skills were terrible, and my resume was even worse.

A few days after the rejection, iDibs (https://idibs.it/) was collaborating with Quinlan Consulting Team to provide a 2-week intensive winter program that teaches MYOB and offers real client work experience, which I found out I could add to my resume. I joined and found the knowledge really practical and useful. I discovered the QCT Mentor Programme during the winter programme and heard they provide unlimited experience to Mentor Programme students. I decided to join the QCT Mentor Programme.

The Mentor Programme provides a very wide variety of training and practical experiences for different types of Accounting and Finance roles. What surprised me was that the Mentor Programme also provided help in job-readiness, such as resume check, job search tips and even mock interview sessions. I only had to pay the difference between the Winter and Mentor programme, which was far less from other unpaid experience and training providers.

The main reason why I would recommend the programme to others is simply because of the amount of knowledge and experience you get compared with the price tag. Not only did I get accounting knowledge and experience and help building soft skills such as a boost of confidence for interviews, but I also got an improved resume.

For fresh Uni students, my advice would be to start getting valuable training and experience early. I thought I had time when I was still in my 2nd year. I realized how wrong I was and I was scrambling everywhere just to catch up with others who started early.

After a few months in the Mentor Programme I was ready to apply for jobs. After going through 2 rounds of interviews, my employer asked me for a reference. As part of the programme, I did training courses and work experience which Tom was able to give a valuable reference on. Without the reference, I could have gotten rejected as I would not have been as credible. Employers look for that security when looking for a candidate. Thanks, Tom. I got the job!

I joined the Mentor Programme in March 2019. I had just recently moved from Dubai to Melbourne and I had over 10 years of end to end accounting experience, but I lacked local Australian work experience, and also lacked knowledge in MYOB, Xero, GST, FBT, etc. When compared to other programmes the Mentor Programme seemed to be the most efficient and economical and would get me the training and experience I needed. I was referred to the Quinlan Mentor Programme in 2018 by a friend who got a job after he joined. My main goal in joining was to overcome the obstacle I faced which was that I required real world accounting experience to get a job.

A few things stood out to me in the Mentor Programme from the other programs I looked at. The main ones were the Mentor Programme’s structure and how easy it was to follow. I was also attracted to the coaching style of Tom & the support he and his team offered. The Mentor Programme allowed me to gain real world work experience, build my resume with constant feedback and it motivated me and gave me confidence in face to face interviews.

After about 4 months in the Mentor Programme I got a part time accounts clerk role. After about 6 months or so I was offered a full-time position with more responsibilities. Now a year later I have the opportunity to step up into a different role, however, I need to revise some areas of my accounting skills to fulfill the new role’s extended requirements. I reached out to Tom and he welcomed me back to the programme. I can now build up my knowledge in this area to get the new role. The Mentor Programme has paid off big time!

After finishing my master’s in accounting, I started applying for jobs. I sent out hundreds of applications but never heard back even though I had three years of overseas experience and a degree in accounting. But what I didn’t have was local, Australian experience and a strong reference.

That is when I heard about Quinlan Consulting from a friend. I did some research and joined the Quinlan Mentor Programme in February 2020, just at the start of the COVID pandemic.

The Mentor Programme really helped me to understand Australian accounting processes and I learned things that we weren’t taught at Uni. The support services, monthly class schedule and course map really helped me to advance in the course faster.

Due to Covid, it took me longer to find a job, but after one year in the program, I got a job. Tom has always been supportive and a great mentor to me. Before joining the Quinlan Mentor Programme, I was working as an insurance underwriter. At the time of joining the Mentor Programme I was unemployed and looking at transitioning to work in the accounting and finance industry, however, I lacked this experience.

I saw Quinlan as an invaluable opportunity for me to be able to gain professional industry experience and help with my attempts to secure permanent employment.

The Quinlan Mentor Programme stood out to me for a few specific reasons:

1) the content – if you want to become an accountant or bookkeeper, this programme is definitely for you.
